It is hard to keep in touch with good friends and family over a long distance, but the internet brings people closer. Year 2000 was passing by for us fast. Not too much news on our side, but here are some words.
As you probably know, we moved in spring from Campbell to San Jose, both in the Silicon Valley. We like our town house a lot, the neighbors are very friendly.
Our kids are developing well. For example, they look now quiet different from photos from a year ago. Ladina finished the Challenger pre-school in Spring, now she is in public kindergarten in the Cupertino school district. We deliberately choose our new home so that our kids can go to the good Cupertino school; rent is higher here, but schools are much much better then average. Alexis is now in the same pre-school Ladina went to. Alexis is a womanizer, he likes to kiss girls. The other day we met his school mate Erika at a restaurant by coincidence. He asked her mother for Erika's phone number!!
TakeFive, the company I work for was acquired by Wind River in February. With that I moved to a different division within Wind River, to an office in Foster City, which is near the San Francisco airport, 50 km away from home. I can do this distance in 30 minutes with my new Toyota Camry I ordered over the Internet (which BTW was delivered to our home.) At TakeFive I did customer support management for two years, which I did not really like too much. Now I am back in engineering and manage a software development group. This job is much better, it is more in line with my professional background.
In my free time I spend lots of late evenings with a web based software called TWiki ( http://TWiki.org/ ), where I am the lead developer. It is open source software, which means that the software is distributed for free (and with that no earnings for me, yet.) The software allows companies to maintain an Intranet and knowledge base by simply using a web browser. TWiki it is mainly used behind corporate firewalls, including many major companies, like 3Com, AMD, Alcatel, Amazon.com, AT&T , .... through Xerox. TWiki got very popular in the mean time, there are now 10 to 20 downloads per day. Technically inclined people are invited to read a recent article I wrote for the Web Techniques magazine.
Mainly because of TWiki I have a lot of e-mail traffic at home. In year 2000 I received and sent almost 10'000 e-mails, an average of 27 e-mails per day. Of course, I am looking forward for your e-mail, and my reply will be there for sure, just with some delay sometimes!

It was nice to have some friends visiting us in year 2000, some of you are in the photos below. Also this year is open house as usual. We expect Vivien from Hong Kong in January, then shortly after Elena from Mexico. It's just an e-mail or phone call away...
