Schuders - A Small Mountain Village

Schuders is a small village in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border. It is located in the Prättigau a valley in Kanton Graubünden, the mountain district in the east part of Switzerland (info, map). The village at an elevation of 1300 m (4000 feet) is a place to enjoy relaxing vacation in all four seasons. It is also a starting point for mountain hiking tours and mountain climbing adventures in the Raetikon mountain range.

The road to Schuders starts in Schiers and is a narrow winding mountain road, about 8 km long. On the way is the Salginatobel bridge, the famous 90 m tall bridge, built by Robert Maillart in 1929-1930. The road is rather steep and sometimes icy in winter time, so most villagers like to use a 4 wheel drive car. Chur, the provincial capital of Kanton Graubünden, is just a 45 min drive away.

Schuders has no ski lifts, but some well known ski resorts (Klosters, Davos, Gruesch) are closed by. Some people like to start ski mountaineering trips (Ski Tours) from Schuders in late winter.

The village of Schuders is very small, it counts only 45 inhabitants, most of which are farmers. It has a small romantic church.
