2003-12-24: Happy and Fun New Year 2004
From Peter
I wish you the best of luck, health and success in 2004!
This year was good but less eventful then other years. Except for a 5 weeks summer vacation in Switzerland. We opted for a Swiss Rail Pass and traveled by train, bus and boat. No car this time, a nice change from the Silicon Valley where you can't do anything without a car. Our kids had good opportunity to learn more Swiss German while playing with the Tarnutzer kids in Schuders. They liked very much to stay with Nani in Schuders!
Our kids are developing well. Ladina continues her art and dance education. She had three dances on a recent performance. Alexis likes sport and everything technical. He is already teaching me how to use the computer!
My free time is absorbed to a large part by the free software project
TWiki which I am leading. It is ever expanding, there are now 10,000 people on the mailing list for announcements of new TWiki versions. My next presentation on TWiki is at the upcoming
LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in New York on 21 Jan 2004. TWiki as a business was a failure. There was not enough drive after my business partner left; in December I closed down the business. I am now preparing a new business with a partner who is experienced in running a company.
Work at
Wind River is progressing well. The company is slowly but surely recovering from the Internet bubble, but we employees with stocks and stock options did not do well on the financial side. A high profile CEO is joining the company in January, we have high hopes that he will drive the company back to its hay days.
I wish to see you some day, all friends and families are welcome to visit us in sunny California
From Shona
Happy holiday and Happy New Year. Good health and all the best!
From Ladina Renata HoiWing (8 1/2 years)
Hello people. I like to draw, ride bicycle, ski, play with friends, and scate. I am a third grader now. In Meyerholz school I'm in room 13, my teacher's name is Mrs. Kirsh. I do not have as much homework as the fourth graders. Room 13 is a combination class of third grade and fourth grade students. We got the Christmas tree high in the mountains on 21 Dec 2003. Before we got the tree, we already had a lot of presents.
We went to Switzerland on summer vacation. I met my grandmother and step-grandfather. Nani, my grandma, made a restaurant out of her house. I helped set up tables for the guests. Nani also teaches drawing. She let me use a kind of paint on glass. After we finished the drawing, Nani put the glass in a very hot stove. I drew a tulip and my brother drew a jet plain. I have friends but I made more friends. One of my friends is named Ladina. She is very different from me. Ladina has glasses. My family and I went on a trip around Europe. We went to Italy. The spaghetti there is sooooooooooooooooooooo delicious! I had fun in Switzerland!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Simona, Carmen, Thomas and Daniel. How do you do? In America I am having fun. When can you visit us at our house? Do you enjoy school? Did you get your Christmas tree yet?
From Alexis Jonas HoiChun (almost 7 years)
I miss two of you, Thomas and Daniel in Switzerland. I hope you have a Merry Christmas. I like to play wall ball at school.
